Jalen Hurts, the quarterback who led the Philadelphia Eagles through the NFL playoffs and into the Super Bowl, has added another achievement to his already impressive resume: a Master's degree in human relations from Oklahoma University.
Joe Castiglione, Hurts' former athletic director, spoke proudly of the academic success of the university's athletes. This academic year saw OU post a record for the most athletes over a 3.0 GPA, as well as a new school record for graduation rate. Additionally, the football team posted an all-time high GPA, and the most recent semester for all athletes resulted in an all-time record cumulative GPA of 3.25. OU athletes have also posted a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better for a record 23 straight semesters - or almost 12 years.
Despite graduating from the University of Alabama in just three years before transferring to OU, Hurts did not stop at his undergraduate degree. Castiglione praised Hurts' leadership and influence, saying, "His leadership and influence...he just totally gets it. Couldn't be more proud of him, and grateful that we had a chance to be part of his journey, even if it was for a short amount of time."
On May 12, Hurts walked across the stage with other OU graduates to receive his diploma. Castiglione said that Hurts had made it clear when he left that he intended to finish his Master's degree, and that "when Jalen tells you something, you know you can bank on it."
